When it comes to a low sugar, high protein treat, I’m all ears. Trying to stay on the straight and narrow at all times just isn’t realistic, especially for those with a really sweet tooth like me, and while it’s important to indulge from time to time and avoid restricting ourselves, what about those times when you’ve vowed to avoid chocolate and treats for the day, but your sweet craving is getting the better of you?
I recently was given the opportunity to try Wheyhey protein ice cream, which I’d always been curious about. It seems like a great idea, a sweet treat without the guilt, ideal for those weak moments, but did it live up to my expectations?
When it came to tasting the products, I didn’t hold back, and indulged in all four flavours across the space of a week, to give them all a fair try. I’ve heard good things about Wheyhey, and the brand lived up to their reputation.
The ice cream is so close to the real thing, apart from it has the added benefit of 20g of protein per pot and is sugar free. I’ve tried quite a few protein focused treats before, including a variety of protein bar brands and protein cookies, as well as making protein cakes and flapjacks at home, but so far I’ve been unable to trick my taste buds into believing that the treats were indeed treats, feeling like my sweet tooth hadn’t been properly satisfied.
In vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and banana, I found all four flavours really enjoyable, and that the Wheyhey ice cream tasted far less synthetic than many of the other protein treats I had sampled in the past.
The ice cream contains 20g of whey protein, which is a by-product of the cheese making process and is 100% natural, making it a great protein supplement. There are also nine essential amino acids in the whey protein isolate used by Wheyhey and 11 ‘non-essential’ amino-acids, making the protein in the ice cream highly beneficial to the body.
Ideal as a post workout snack, or to help you through those cravings when you’re trying to stay on the straight and narrow, the Wheyhey ice cream really impressed me, and will be something I stock my freezer with in the future to help with my sweet tooth.
