Which foods are healthier?
When venturing into the world of health and fitness, we are constantly saturated with the latest and quickest ways to lose weight. Healthy foods are often overlooked by labels claiming to be ‘low fat’ or ‘low sugar’ or an ingredients list that is as long as our arm that we can’t pronounce.
It is usually those foods that are full of secret sugars, fats and empty calories. We need to be nourishing our bodies with healthy superfoods that fuel our body and replenish vitamins and minerals.
This week the Mail Online looked into our favourite healthy dishes, snacks and drinks and which ones were better for us.
Hummus vs. Guacamole?
Although both healthy choices, guacamole is actually considered healthier. Hummus contains more protein, but guacamole has less calories.
Sugar vs. Sweetener?
When trying to lose weight, we try to avoid anything laden with sugar. However, artificial sweeteners can trick the body into storing fat and research has shown a link between aspartame and cancer.
Wine vs. Beer?
From our industry news last week, we found wine contained less calories than beer! Beer drinkers have been found more prone to putting on weight compared to those who drink wine.
Greek vs. plain yoghurt?
Greek yoghurt is higher in fat, but is lower in sugar. It helps a slower release or energy and less of an insulin response.
Dark chocolate vs. Cereal bars
Dark chocolate contains a great source of antioxidants, as well as being high in magnesium. It helps to lower blood pressure and improve cognitive function. Cereal bars usually contain a high amount of sugar and unhealthy fats.
Peanut butter vs. Hazelnut Spread
Peanut butter! A favourite here at Eilidh MacRae Media. A powerful source of protein and potassium, peanut butter can help reduce the risk of stroke and heart disease. It also aids towards a normal bowel function, lowers blood pressure and it a great antioxidant.
If you are looking to lose a few pounds from winter, then try a boxing class! Loved by Victoria Secret’s model Adriana Lima, boxing is a great way to get in shape and tone up.
Helping to strengthen your core, boxing requires a lot of power from your waist and hips. You also need to focus on your balance, which helps muscles to tighten up.
