sopherinaThis week, for our Blog Love feature we spoke with Sophie, UK blogger behind the wonderful style blog www.sopherina.co.ukShe has recently turned 24 years old and is midway through her CIMA accountancy qualification, although she explains “I have changed my mind on the career path I would like to ensue so am taking a short break from this”. However she currently works as an accountant and has been blogging for nearly 5 months now. She grew up in Watford and recently bought a house in Hemel Hempstead with her partner.
1. What made you decide to start up your blog?
I have always been someone who takes inspiration from other people and love reading things I can relate to. I started reading fashion blogs for inspiration to find high street alternatives to the expensive brands and it all went from there. It turned into reading beauty posts and lifestyle posts, I would read blogs about relationships and relate mine to it, or blog about peoples travels and holidays, or how they battled to get on the housing property ladder which gave me tips and helped me relate to things whilst we were trying to get onto the property ladder! I then decided I’d love to start my own blog, to let my creative ideas out. I found it has been therapeutic for me, somewhere to focus my mind to.
2. Which is your favourite social media platform and why?
Probably Twitter. I have met so many great bloggers over Twitter due to chat hours etc. I am connected on twitter to tonnes of other bloggers so have found it great in giving and receiving help and ideas. For me Instagram comes in a very close 2nd, I felt with photos I get to express myself easily as well as feel personally connected to others!
3. You blog about fashion, beauty and lifestyle. Which is your favourite area to write about and why?
My favourite is probably fashion. I adore different seasons of fashion and cannot wait for Autumn which is my favourite time of the year for clothing, I am going to be blogging constantly!
4. You have 635 followers on Instagram, what did you do to increase your following?
I join in a lot of chat hours over Twitter which has introduced me to tonnes of bloggers and Youtubers and also small businesses. I will always find someones Instagram that way as I love browsing peoples photos. I also search the hashtag #ukbloggers #fbloggers #lbloggers #bbloggers and then browse peoples photos, liking them or leaving a comment on the ones I love and this often means I’ll follow them, they’ll follow back and we start networking. It is fun!
5. What tips would you give others wanting to push their blogs?
My main tip is to probably write for yourself and not try to mimic someone else’s style. People love individuality and also realistic writing. I think a great idea which I love doing is to search Blogging ideas on Pinterest. It helps with writing styles to photo taking, it can really push a Blog up a notch with just some simple changes!
6. Do you have any specific goals for your blog?
My goal has always been to keep it completely real to myself, to make everything I put on it something I am happy with! And that I am happy for others to read it!
7. What advice would you give to those starting out?
To find a topic they really do have passion for, not just something they feel pressured into writing about. Write about something they really enjoy themselves, it is so much easier and the passion of the subject shines out in your blog. Also, Pinterest is a great place for finding ideas, tips and hints!
8. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
The best piece of advice I was given is mentioned above, to write about something you like, but to also reach out to other bloggers as they are a great community. I realised this shortly after setting up my Twitter account, I have met such lovely supportive people.
9. What beauty products would you recommend?sopherina 1
Hmmm, difficult, there are so many! I love a NARS blush. You can’t go wrong with a NARS blush, or a NARS concealer. I would also always recommend Origins, everything I have bought from Origins whether it be a face cream or a mask, they do wonders for my skin!!
10. What’s next for 2016?
2016 has be crazy already for me, I bought a house and have fallen head over heels for blogging so I have been juggling my accountancy job with my desire to blog and network 24/7 whilst being a homeowner, a partner, a ballet dancer and finish a Yoga course I am currently doing! I guess 2016 is about trying to keep my head above the water, but it’s a lot of fun! I am also thinking of YouTubing… Which scares me a little!
